SES assist Police following early morning fire

The garage on the ground floor of the townhouse was destroyed

Just before 11am this morning (07/07/2012), Chelsea members were called to assist at an overnight house fire in Pier One Drive, Patterson Lakes.

City of Kingston Building Inspector arrives at the scene

On arrival, at the 4 storey town house, members assessed that the building could be unsafe in certain areas and called in the City of Kingston Building Inspector.

Once the inspector arrived, he confirmed their initial fears that areas of the second level were very unsafe due to fire damage from the garage below burning through many of the ceiling timbers.

The Chelsea team leader joined him in assessing the building and working out a plan to make some access areas safe and quarantine other areas to avoid further damage or possible injury.

One area of concern was at the foot of the staircase, next to the garage, in the main entrance, where heavy timbers and acrow props were used to reinforce the ceiling to enable a safe, clear pathway, to the safe areas of the second floor.

The home owner was allowed into the house to retrieve some clothes, a few photographs and some toys and was assisted by Chelsea members.

Not too much left, but all are safe and sound

The fire, which began around 1am, all but destroyed the 1.5 Million Dollar home and is currently being investigated as suspicious by CFA and Police according to a CFA spokesman. The owners were not at home at the time of the fire but arrived shortly after the CFA arrived on scene.

There were no injuries.
