Chelsea SES Celebrate WOW Day 2013

wow13 03

The orange glow of the clock tower will shine for an entire week

The City of Kingston and Chelsea SES have arranged for the clock tower at Moorabbin Town Hall at the intersection of Nepean Highway and South Road to glow orange for the entire week (10/11 – 17/11/2013) in celebration of the SES so if you see this orange beacon shinning through the night, spare a second to think about the job that SES volunteers do every day of the year

Thanks to The City of Kingston

wow13 02

The Clock tower looks fantastic

wow13 04

The Controller was there but no sign of Thomas & Friends

Chelsea SES had an early start for WOW day 2013 with members and Paddy visiting Mordialloc and Mentone railway stations with a healthy, orange start to the day by giving out beautiful Mildura Fruit Company oranges to commuters.

Welcome to Wear Orange Wednesday

wow13 06

Group hug!

wow13 07

Metro staff at Mordialloc kept us out of the rain, thanks guys

Many people were initially a little surprised to see a huge orange platypus waiting for the 7.15 to Flinders Street, but soon warmed to the idea after a bit of a hug. The oranges were very well received as a healthy brekkie and the Chelsea volunteer members at each station had lots of people showing their gratitude for what we do through thank yous as well as donations.

wow13 08

Always time for another huig from Paddy

wow13 09

In spite of the wind and rain the oranges brightened up the commuters day

wow13 10

Even a Platypus needs to keep up with the morning news

wow13 11

Free orange for breakfast Sir

wow13 12

Lots of donations kept the guys at Mentone busy

The wind and rain of another glorious Melbourne spring day didn’t dampen the atmosphere with oranges, hugs from Paddy and plenty of good will being shared around. Commuters donated $490.35 during the 2 hour visit.

Metro staff at Mentone, very cool.

Ritchies IGA Manager Sandy presents a plaque to Controller Ron

After the stations, it was time for Paddy to go back to school, firstly visiting Edithvale Primary who, along with a number of local schools, had taken up the challenge of Wear orange Wednesday. Paddy visited lots of classrooms and every student received a Mildura Fruit Company orange which they loved. Student’s brought a gold coin donation for a free dress day to wear orange and they raised $343.50 which was donated to the unit. Well done guys and thank you!

Ritchies IGA have raised over $40,000.00 since 2000 for Chelsea SES

The Community Beneffits Coordinator at Ritchies, Penny Sayer, says "Ritchies are pleased  to have the Chelsea SES as one of the emergency services to benefit through our CB Program as they do such wonderful work in the community and the manager at Aspendale Gardens Ritchies is delighted to present the SES with a Ritchies plaque."

Now which button do I press?

Paddy jumped behind the registers to lend a hand but I think that he may need more practise. Next stop was the Aspendale Gardens branch of the Bendigo Bank to say hi and of course more pictures.

wow13 16

Paddy dropped into the Bendigo Bank for a quick chat

wow13 18

Patterson River Secondary made Paddy feel right at home

Next it was time for a little R & R for Paddy and a chance for him to get a bit of exercise time with a visit to Patterson River Secondary College and a little court time with some of the students. I think that Paddy should stick to the SES as his basketball skills were a bit rusty to say the least.

Nothing but nett?

wow13 20

Great game guys!

wow13 27

Hi Paddy, Welcome to Woolworths Chelsea

Next it was time to visit Woolworths Chelsea who have been running a variety of fundraisers throughout November for the Chelsea Unit including a Cup day barbeque raffles and competitions with another barbeque to finish off the week on Saturday when the raffle will also be drawn.

Helping out on the deli

Bread made with love deserves a Paddy hug for the baker

wow13 23

Paddy fits in a quick shop on the run

Paddy thought he would check out a few of the different areas of Woolworths’ and had a try in the deli, in the bakery and once again behind the registers but sadly, the store Manager thought that Paddy would be better served simply doing his shopping instead of insisting on trying to help.

Helping the girls sell the Chelsea SES fundraiser raffle tickets

WOW Day 2013 was a lot of fun and everyone at Chelsea SES would like to say a huge thank you to everyone who took the time to be involved either through wearing orange, making a donation or simply saying thanks, it means a lot!

Special thanks to Chelsea members Ria, Ron, Peter, Bruno, Rich, Damien, Gavin & Phil
Extra special thanks to The Mildura Fruit Company for the beautiful oranges without which none of today would have been possible!!!
