The start of a big day for Paddy

At the end of what has been a very busy week here in Chelsea for Paddy the Platypus, the last day of his visit to Chelsea unit was no different. Saturday (16/11/2013) began early when he joined members at Woolworths Supermarket in Chelsea for a fundraising barbeque with Chelsea volunteer members, Desanka, Chris and Hans and to meet the locals in time for some well earned hugs from everyone from the young to the not so young.

 Love that orange hair

The fabulous folks who work and shop at Woolworths Chelsea have raised over $3000.00 for Chelsea SES over the past 2 weeks and everyone of us say a huge THANK YOU!!!

 Off to the tin shake

Next, Paddy and his helper, Chelsea member, Melissa, headed off to the intersection of Warrigal Road and Centre Dandenong Road where the rest of the Chelsea Unit volunteer members were shaking tins for one of the 2 big intersection collections for the year. The volunteer members collected more than $13,000.00 on the day making it the most succesful intersection collection ever for the Chelsea Unit. Huge thanks to everyone who donated and all of the members who gave their time to help out. Well done everyone!

The hub of the intersection fundraiser

After this it was off to Aspendale Gardens Shopping Centre for the annual Aspendale Gardens Community Fun Day. Until Paddy arrived, the star of the show at Aspendale Gardens was ABC TV children’s show presenter Jimmy Giggle from Giggle and Hoot, but once Paddy arrived on scene, there was a little bit of scene stealing going on and once again, Paddy hugs were in great demand from shoppers and shop owners throughout the centre

What a group, Paddle Pop Lion, Peppa Pig, Paddy and friend

Paddy had fun meeting shoppers, but also, ran into some of his friends. Paddle pop Lion, Peppa Pig and the yellow M&M; it was a warm reunion, though a little quiet. At the end of this huge day, our Paddy was pooped and just needed to sit down for a rest.

Everyone at Chelsea would like to thank Paddy for his visit and for all his help with our WOW day and fundraising throughout Chelsea SES Week 2013 and we all hope that he can visit again very soon.

*Super special thanks to Melissa for the brilliant pictures and to Ria for making sure that Paddy was where he should be when he should be and behaving himself!
