Golf Day 2014

Thank you Chelsea SES

Ready to go for 2014

With a very early start for the volunteers involved in this year’s Thank You Chelsea SES Golf Day being held at the Chelsea Public Golf Course by The Australasian Golf Club, the last thing anyone needed was a busy Saturday night. Sadly, it’s rare to have everything go to plan and around 5pm on the Saturday evening 2 major storm fronts hit the Chelsea Operational area leaving the volunteers with almost 50 jobs, including building damage, trees down and flooding, to deal with. With this in mind, there were more than a few bleary eyes when they arrived at the course to set up and prepare breakfast around 7am.

Luckily, Sunday morning arrived with no signs of the previous nights storms and although overcast, a good day appeared to be in store.

Egg & Bacon rolls were the choise for brekkie

The golfers soon began arriving and egg and bacon roles were the way to go.

All dressed up and raring to go

Keep your eyes on the prize

Hmmmm, I think I've got this in the hole

Once again this year, we were thrilled to have 2 of the stars from TV’s Neighbours, Alan Fletcher who plays Dr, Karl and Stefan Dennis who plays Karl’s arch rival, Paul Robinson. Alan had been performing in Adelaide at the Fringe Festival on the Saturday night and arranged to fly back to Melbourne straight after the show just so that he could be a part of the golf day for Chelsea SES which was fantastic.

Meals on wheels

Soon, it was also time to make the egg and bacon rolls a little more mobile and it was into the golf cart with roles in hand and off to the golfers for a very welcome top up.

Time to grab 40 winks

Once the golf got under way it was a chance for some members to catch up on a little sleep, however, the peace was soon broken with 4 jobs coming in that were responded to by Chelsea Rescue 3 and members already at the club.

For the golfers it's business as usual

Old habits die hard

Needless to say, the boys from Neighbours soon had some issues on the course but calm was restored in the end.

There was an occassional disagreement amongst the players

Now, now, play nicely boys

Time for some lunch at the 19th hole

At the end of the round, players and Chelsea members mingled around the Bar-B-Que as lunch was served and then it was into the club house for presentations.

That can't be right?

Councillor Tamsin Bearsley catches up with Dr. Karl

Winners are grinners and City of Kingston Councillor, Tamsin Bearsley was on hand to present the trophies and other prizes to the winners.

He may not have got the trophy, but he did get a cup, or even two!
